OPEN LETTER
from healthcare workers of the Republic of Belarus
We, the undersigned, are Belarusian healthcare workers.
We are convinced that the most valuable human treasure is life and health, therefore we provide medical care for all people regardless of their social origin, faith, public opinion and nationality.
We are indignant at the unbelievable violence on the part of security ministries of the Republic of Belarus towards peaceful citizens and we consider the inhumane treatment of detainees and preventing them from receiving timely and adequate medical aid is absolutely unacceptable.
Mass persecutions cut across the healthcare system as well: for honest and open opinion on what is happening in the country were dismissed rectors of Belarusian Medical universities, the head of the National Cancer Centre "Cardiology", teachers of Belarusian State Medical University. Many doctors, nurses, students of medical universities were arrested, faced trials, lost jobs, etc, etc. Specialists quit healthcare, leaving their favourite jobs and homeland, because the authorities of the Republic of Belarus measure a healthcare worker's professionalism by the degree of support of the current regime.
We believe the current crisis urgently requires a legal way out.
According to article 3 of Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the only source of state power and holder of sovereignty is the nation. Therefore we, as a part of Belarusian nation, demand:
Belarusian healthcare workers are against violence and lawlessness.
We invite all healthcare workers to sign the letter demanding:

- That violence and aggression towards citizens on the part of security ministries of the Republic of Belarus should be stopped and that all facts of infliction of bodily harm, torture and violations of human dignity should be investigated.
- That political prisoners and all citizens arrested for peaceful demonstrations, which were qualified by current authorities as illegal activities, should be released.
- That leaders of security ministries, who gave unlawful orders, performers of these orders, who are responsible for torture of detainees, protesters' deaths, threats, concealment and obstruction of official registration of the facts of violence in the forensic medical examination bodies should be brought to justice.
- That timely medical aid should be provided on a full scale for people kept in detention centres and that psychological, legal and financial aid should be provided for all people who suffered from the lawlessness of security ministries.
- That all people dismissed/expelled on political grounds should be reinstated at working places and universities, and that any pressure on healthcare workers, which interferes with their right to express their civic stance, should be stopped.
- That official results of the election of the president of the Republic of Belarus 09. 08. 2020 should be recognised invalid due to proven facts of massive falcifications, pressure on polling commissions and absence of detached monitors, which resulted in the current crisis in the country.
- That new elections of the president of the Republic of Belarus should be held in accordance with all international standards and incumbent heads of the Central Election Committee should be dismissed and put to justice in accordance with the legal system of the Republic of Belarus.
Belarusian healthcare workers are against violence and lawlessness.
We invite all healthcare workers to sign the letter demanding:
- that violence on the part of security ministries should be stopped and that all facts of inflicting bodily harm and torture should be investigated.
- that political prisoners and all citizens arrested for peaceful demonstrations should be released.
- that everyone dismissed/expelled on political grounds people should be reinstated at work places and universities.
- that official results of the election of the president of the Republic of Belarus 09. 08. 2020 should be recognised invalid and that new election should be held in accordance with the law.
